Canadian Broadcast Standards Council Announces New Executive Director

Ottawa, February 27, 1998 -- Ron Cohen, National Chair of the CBSC, announces the departure of Jennifer Monaghan, who served as the first full-time Executive Director of the Council from June 1997 to March 1998. She will be returning to Vancouver, where she will be taking up duties as Assistant Manager, Municipal and Utility Relations, at Rogers Cablesystems Limited.

The new full-time Executive Director will be Ann Mainville-Neeson, who has recently been called to the Bar of Ontario. A graduate summa cum laude of the Faculty of Law of the University of Ottawa, Ms. Mainville-Neeson also served as Editor-in-Chief of the Ottawa Law Review in 1995-96. She articled at the CRTC in 1996-97 and subsequently continued to work in the Commission’s Legal Directorate from June 1997 until February of this year. She is fluent in French, English and Danish.

As the CBSC Executive Director, Ms. Mainville-Neeson will play a significant role in the Council’s continually expanding activities, which include, among other things, the challenge of vastly increased demands upon its adjudication services, the fresh requirements of expanded specialty service membership, the introduction of the television ratings system and the forthcoming CRTC self-regulatory review. The CBSC administers the CAB Code of Ethics, the CAB Violence Code and the CAB Sex-Role Portrayal Code as well as the RTNDA Code of (Journalistic) Ethics.
